The Hot Dog Festival originated as a university project during my studies abroad in Manchester.
The task of the specific module was to create a corporate design for a festival of our
choice. While discussing our ideas with the other students, we came up with the idea of a Hot
Dog festival, which appealed a lot to me since its theme was oddly specific. To get a
rough idea of how to approach this subject, I conducted some research on food festivals
and their look. Funny enough, there turned out to be a lot of Hot Dog festivals in America.
I decided not to go with the classic approach using food photography since I wanted to develop a special look to deliver the specificity of the festival. My first designs used a bright turquoise colour as a base, accompanied by illustrative 3D Hot Dog renderings which I created in Cinema4D. This design however turned out to look very clean and hygienic, almost like a dentist's brand. I decided to start from scratch. The idea for the final design came to me on a rainy night walking home when the neon lights on the streets were inviting me in to enjoy a warm meal. I wanted to convey the same feeling to visitors of the festival by recreating the way I felt back then, with a dark, ambient atmosphere and neon lights inviting people to enjoy a tasty Hot Dog.
